Social Media Image Sizes
26 Apr 2017
Sizing images for social networks can be very frustrating. The playground keeps changing with every layout change. So how should your images appear in news feeds, timelines, or streams?
The height, width and aspect ratio are elements that most influence how an image will appear in a social network stream. You want whatever size image you use to resize as best it can to the space available. The last thing you want is for half your message to be chopped off at the sides, or top & bottom.
However, social networks keep on changing their layouts, so it's up to us to keep up with them. Below are sizes current at time of print, and we'll try to update them as necessary. But if in doubt, you can do a search for 'social network image sizes [current year]'.
All dimensions below are in pixels.
But we can cheat!
If you have a little experience on image editors, or if you are just sharing an image, there is a simpler way of sizing your social media images.
Image Size: 1600 x 800
Left Margin Padding: 120px
Right Margin Padding: 120px
If you keep your message within the padded areas, this size will adapt to pretty much all social networks at the moment. It will save you having to produce multiple images.
